Journey Franklin - 03.28.10

We didn't know where we were going to go to church when we moved to Franklin last year. We heard about a church across the street from where we live, so we walked over the first Sunday we were here, and haven't tried another church since. The church is called Journey Franklin. It's quite different from what we were used to in Houston, but we like it. During today's service an artist got up and painted on a canvas. It didn't really look like anything distinguishable when he finished, but then he rotated it 180 degrees, it was backlit, and here it is.

Carriage Lane Inn Wedding Murfreesboro TN - 03.27.10

We had the pleasure of photographing an awesome couple's wedding yesterday in Murfreesboro. The full blog post will be up on www.framedbyfletcher.com later this week, but here's one shot from the venue.

03.26.10 - Kelly

Blakley's brother Kelly is here in Franklin visiting us. We rented some lighting gear to use at the wedding we are shooting today so I figured I'd test it out on him. He has come to expect his picture being taken around here and was a good sport about it.

Blue Sky - 03.25.10

We had some wicked storms in middle TN yesterday. I know this shot has some awful banding on it from a post processing perspective. I still like it.

Art's 85th - 03.24.10

We made the short trip to Iuka yesterday to be with Blakley's grandpa on his 86th birthday yesterday. There was cake.

Open For Interpretation - 03.23.10

I don't want to say too much about this photo because I want to hear what people think it looks like.

The Unamused Dogs - 03.22.10

So our dogs have been called "the most photographed dogs ever". So what. :) Sometimes our pets are the only willing subjects we can find. This photo falls completely under the "playing with a new lens" category. We rented a couple lenses this week and I just had to play with them.

Rainy Sunday - 03.21.10

Blakleylooking out the window, wishing it wasn't so rainy so we could have gotten out and done something outside today. Ok, so I asked her to pose this way. Same thing.

Abstract - 03.20.10

This is one of the few times I use something completely abstract as my POTD. I want to start doing it more often though. This makes me think of the view of the sun rising across the curve of the earth from space.

Bridge Over Smooth Water - 03.19.10

We were out scouting a location for a shoot we are doing this weekend in downtown Nashville last night. The Cumberland river provided a nice reflection of this bridge.

Slow Construction? Never! - 03.18.10

A section of Franklin Rd. was under construction today and it just struck me as funny seeing this worker sitting on a k-rail holding a sign that read "SLOW". I whipped out the cell phone and snagged this pic. Here's a little tip that most iPhone users probably know but I'll mention anyway. The sky was bright in this shot and the phone wanted to keep it in check by making the whole scene darker (lowering the exposure). However, with the iPhone you can touch the part on the screen that you want to expose property (and focus on) and the camera will take care of it. If I just held up the phone and shot, everything but the sky would have been dark and you wouldn't have seen any details in anything else. For this shot I touched on the guy holding the sign, and he is exposed well.

Panning Practice - 03.17.10

You have a lot of time on a 12 hour car trip. 12 hours to be exact. I practiced my "panning" skills for a  while while Blakley drove. Here is the one I liked the best. I felt like it kinda had a miniature feel to it.

Ski Centurion - 03.16.10

We went to check on our boat today (89 Ski Centurion). Sadly, we haven't had it out in several years :( Many of you probably don't know that my wife Blakley was one of the founders of the sport of competitive kneeboarding in the 80's  and won many tournaments in her hay-day back in Baton Rouge, LA. It's true! Anyway, we have had a lot of fun on this boat over the years.

Turning Day to Night - 03.14.10

The Canon 7D has the ability to trigger a Canon flash that is not attached to the camera with a wire. The ability to get the flash "off the camera" opens up a new world of possibilities for dramatic lighting.  Believe it or not, this photo was taken in broad daylight, as the sun was just starting to set. The flash was placed on a table to my camera left side about 3 feet away at about a 90 degree angle. I set the camera to manual exposure, pointed it up at the sky and set the exposure meter at about -1 by adjusting the ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture to make sure the sky had rich colors and detail. The camera then handles the exposure  of the sky, and with the flash set to ETTL mode, the flash then figures out how much light to put out to expose the subject (me) properly.

The Hurt Locker - 03.13.10

I have no idea why I titled this entry "The Hurt Locker", I just did.

I hesitated to use this picture but I figured I'd be doing a bad job documenting the day in and day out of my life if I didn't. That there knee is the one I had to have 40% of my meniscus removed from on Friday. It's amazing what they can do with tiny incisions these days. And by "they" I mean my good friend Dr. Raz Scobercea. I'm on the road to recovery now.

Good Friends, Good Times - 03.12.10

We had a great group of friends over tonight.  Toward the end of the night I started to wake up a little, but I'm pretty sure a good time was had by all!

De Plane - De Plane - 03.11.10

I headed out to Houston Southwest Airport today with my father-in-law to take some photos for my friend Curtis Lawson's business. If you want to learn to fly a plane, hit me up!

We were packed up and leaving when I saw a shaft of light funneling into a hangar illuminating the cool planes inside.

It has been nasty outside the last few days. So when the sun poked out I took the chance to snag some pictures of the birds doin' their thing at the feeder.

It's pronounced... - 03.09.10

I never thought I would need the services of our friend Raz who is a Kingwood Orthopedic Surgeon, but he's awesome and got me in for an MRI on my knee on short notice yesterday. Here's what I found at the front desk.

Chillin' with the Homies - 03.08.10

It's great to be back in Houston. We got together with all the homies tonight over at the Ledbetter's house in our old stompin' grounds. A great time was had by all. It was so good to see our friends again and eat the delicious food Christina made for us.

Rollin' Rollin' Rollin' - 03.06.10

So I don't know if this is technically a photo or not. I took a picture of the sunrise in Franklin too just in case ;) This is how long it took us to drive from Franklin to Houston. Two stops for gas, two stops for pee.

Kettlebell - 03.06.10

Crossfit Middle Tennessee was held outside today at a park since the gym, "A Game Sports Complex"  get's crazy busy with hockey and volleyball tournaments on Saturday's.

My knee still isn't right so I had to sit this one and and just take some pictures. Here was the workout:

3 Rounds For Time:
Run Half a Mile
50 Kettle Bell Swings (53lb men/35lb women)

In The Round - 03.05.10

Blakley and I went to "The Commodore Grill" in Nashville tonight to see singer/songwriter Melissa Fuller perform with 3 other artist "in the round". As you can tell from the picture, it's more like a line than a circle. :)  Melissa is in our small group at church. The other artists were Josh RushKelly Archer and Phil Barton. They all sounded incredible. It really makes me realize how much talent is right under our noses here in town.

Blakley and I went out to do some shootin' today. She usually hides from the camera.  So what better way to hide from the camera than to hide behind another one?

Left Over From The Fall - 03.02.10

I found this leaf on the sidewalk outside our house today. I liked the way the cement around the leaf was wet from all of the moisture in the leaf. Hopefully some warmer weather is on it's way to us. I'm ready for spring.

Elevator Up! 03.01.10

So my knee is still not 100%. Those of you have come to visit us in Franklin know that we have two pretty long flights of stairs in our place. Luckily, there is also an elevator that comes in handy for sending groceries and gimps between floors.
