Thursday Night Jowling - 04.29.10

It's Thursday night so I was jowling as usual.  If you don't know what it is, google it.

I know you Houston people are missing seeing my truck around, so I made it a point to get a picture of it after rinsing a few pounds of pollen off of it.

Bidness - 04.26.10

I'm not sure if it's cheating to post a "business" picture as the picture of the day but oh well :)
You may or may not know that we shoot real estate as part of our photography business.  One thing we do to set ourselves apart from other photographers is to provide these "detail collages" with each shoot. The agents seem to like them. Here's one I shot yesterday.

Cast humility, not stones - 04.25.10

John 8:

1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.
But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.” 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.
9At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. 10Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
11“No one, sir,” she said.
“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

How often do we cast judgement on people only to make ourselves feel better? "A tleast I don't do ________ like he does." "Look how she lives her life. At least I don't do that." I know I do it. How much different would the world be if we approached each person we encounter with humility instead of judgement?  We were challenged at church yesterday to not cast stones of judgement against others, as we are all imperfect. If you're interested, you can download a podcast of the service here. It should be up later today or tomorrow.

Some pretty nasty storms went through this part of the country yesterday. Hopefully you can see the wind blowing through this tree in this shot.

Mowin' - 04.16.10

Blakley and I are trying to get more involved in helping her grandpa take care of the property up there. One fairly major task around there is cutting the grass. Blakley took care of the front yard today. It can get really dusty.

Blakley can't stand when her car is dirty. Even worse than the car being dirty is when there are bugs on the windshield. We had both.

Tire Jumping - 04.09.10

Some of the crossfit people started fooling around with the tractor tires after the workout today. It kinda turned into a contest of who could jump up onto three stacked tires. Despite what it looks like in this picture, no one was able to do it.

Off Camera Flash Practice - 04.06.10

Blakley was kind enough to let me practice some off camera flash with her this evening at sunset. The purpose for this exercise was to have a decently exposed subject and also have the sunset exposed properly. It's not rocket surgery, but it does take some thought and equipment.

It was the perfect storm. Sitting at the table, growing bored with making a grocery list, my arm was vulnerable. Blakley reached for the pen, rolled up my sleeve...

Bonds Mountain - 04.04.10

We headed out to Iuka Easter morning to spend some time with family. Tim and I took a nice ride up to the top of Bonds mountain. Yes there really is a Bonds Mountain. Yes, Blakley's maiden name is Bonds, and no it's not a coincidence :) Matter of fact, at 719 feet above sea level, it's the 7th highest peak in Mississippi. The land is no longer in Blakley's family and the current owner was having a big chunk of it strip cut for the timber. It made for an awesome view.

04.02.10 - Train's Bikes?

We went to see Train last night at the Ryman Auditorium (former grand ol' opry) in downtown Nashville. The show was incredible. I spotted these two BMW bikes outside the band's trailer in the parking lot. They had California plates on them. I'm betting they belong to members of the band since they are from San Francisco and probably need some wheels to get around the towns they are visiting.
